Janie Elizabeth "Betsy" Smith (Watson) (-2005) - Class Of 1961

Janie Elizabeth (Betsy) Smith Watson, a resident of Montgomery died on September 21, 2005.

A Memorial Service was held from the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church in Montgomery on Sunday, September 25 at 2:00pm. Visitation was held in the Friendship Room of the church for one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Watson was a teacher for 27 years in the Montgomery Public School System. After her retirement, she served as the Director of Adult Ministries at First United Methodist Church.

Mrs.Watson was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. William L. Smith. Survivors include her husband, William Thomas (Tom) Watson; one son, Winston (Tyra) Pirtle, Jr., Birmingham; one daughter, Laurel Watson (Dan) Floyd, Montgomery; grandchildren Neal Pirtle and Madora Pirtle, Birmingham, and Anna Elizabeth Floyd, Montgomery. Surviving sisters and brothers are Sansing (Terry) McPherson, Hilton Head Island, SC., Lamar (Carol) Smith, Philadelphia, PA, and George B. Smith, Birmingham, AL. She is also survived by four aunts, four uncles and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 2416 West Cloverdale Park, Montgomery, AL.
