Grover Cleveland "Butch" Pilgreen, III (1939-2008) - Class Of 1958

PILGREEN, Grover Cleveland, III passed away October 16, 2008 in Westlake Village, CA after battling emphysema and related heart problems for many years.  He was born October 21, 1939 in Mont­gomery to Wilma (Cochran) and Grover Pilgreen, Jr. and spent his school years in Montgomery and New Or­leans.  He graduated from Sid­ney Lanier HS in June 1958 and lived for a short time in New Orleans before moving to Los Angeles, CA where he met and married his wife, Chris.  Nicknamed "Butch" by family and friends in Mont­gomery, he changed his nickname to "Cleve" when he moved to CA.  He was well known for his wit and dry sense of humor, his love of music and books, especially history and MOST particularly the Civil War.  He was active in many charities and civic ac­tivities in Simi Valley.  He was a businessman and owner of an independent insurance brokerage for 28 years.  He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Chris of Simi Valley; daughter, Debbie (Ken) Kosel; son, Steve (No­rma) Pilgreen and five grand­children all of Palmdale, CA; brothers, Wayne Pilgreen of Montgomery and Joe Winter­bottom of New Orleans. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, neph­ews and friends in Alabama and California.  He was preceded in death by his father, Grover and step­mother, Gray Pilgreen of Montgomery and mother Wil­ma and stepfather, Walter Winterbottom of New Orleans.  Memorials requested to Free Clinic of Simi Valley, www.fre­eclinicsv.com.
