Emma Claude Coburn Norris was born in Molton, Lawrence County, Alabama on October 24, 1938 to Robert Emmett Coburn and his wife, Hazel Priest Coburn. She graduated in the class of 1956 from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, Alabama. She was a leader in every endeavor that she undertook. She obtained a BS, a Master's Degree, and finally a Doctorate in Education before teaching at Troy State University in Troy, Alabama. She married Rev. Al Norris, a United Methodist Minister. They had one son who survived her along with her husband. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. Their records as well as the "Find A Grave" records show that Emma Claude as born Oct 24 1938 and died on 28 January 1997 in Montgomery. She is buried beside her parents in Oakwood Cemetery Annex in Montgomery, Alabama. This information can be further verified by the 1940 census of Alabama. She was able to attend the 1996 Reunion of the Class but at that time, she was suffering from cancer and knew that she would not be able to overcome it. She had smoked constantly and that seemed to be the cause of the lung cancer. She had lived in Montgomery and commuted to Troy to teach which is 42 miles away. On her tombstone is written "Excellent Wife, Mother, Daughter, Teacher."
