Sara Frances Clements (Blake) (1917-2013) - Class Of 1936

Sara C. Blake, age 95, of Montgomery, Alabama, passed peacefully at her home on January 3, 2013. She was born August 8, 1917, the only child of the late Ruth Clements and William O'Neal.

Ms. Blake attended Highland Avenue Grammar School, Capitol Heights Jr. High and graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1936. She then attended Mrs. Hawthorne's Business School and The University of Alabama.

She adopted her only child, Fred C. Griffin, in August 1951 who preceded her in death in December, 2010.

Ms. Blake served as a Civil Servant at Maxwell AFB from 1952 until she retired in 1983. She had been a standing member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church since 1967 where she served as a Children's Sunday school teacher for over 45 years. She has been a business partner in Blake Enterprises for more than 30 years. She also co-founded Chisholm Gun & Pawn in the mid-1980s.

She is survived by her grandchildren: Jennifer Sullivan, Amelia Griffin, Fred Griffin, Jeff Blake and Kelley Moseley.

Services will be held at Leak Memory Chapel with Rev. Larry Armstrong officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday January 8, 2013 from 5pm-7pm. Funeral will be Wednesday January 9, 2013 at 11:30am with graveside service to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Ms. Blake requested any remembrances be made as donations to Eastern Hills Baptist Church.
