Coach Robert "Bobby" C. Wilson (Science, Manual Arts, Head Coach 1957 -1968)

WILSON, Robert C. (Bobby), 75, died Monday, June 6, 2005.  Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2005, at 1 PM from Leak-Memory Chapel, Rev. Perry Neal officiating.  Mr. Wilson graduated from Baldwin County High School in Bay Minette, then went to the University of Alabama on a football scholarship, playing from 1948-1952, and serving as Captain of the 1952 Orange Bowl team.  He coached football 14 years: one year at St. Petersburg, FL, and 13 years at Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, winning 6 State Championships, including 3 consecutive (1966-67-68). He was inducted into the Baldwin County High School Hall of Fame, the Montgomery Area Hall of Fame, and the Alabama High School Athletic Association Sports Hall of Fame.  He was a member of the Univ. of Alabama “A” Club, the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, and earned an ROTC Commission as 2nd Lt.  He served for 2 years in the Army at Ft. Stewart, GA, and Fort McPherson, CA.  Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elsie P. Wilson; 2 sons, Dr. Bobby Wilson, Jr. (Lolly) of Birmingham, and Joseph R. Wilson (Linda) of Pike Road; 6 grandchildren, Daniel, Caleb, Anna, and Ruth Wilson of Birmingham, and Amanda and Rebecca Wilson of Pike Road; a brother, Walter S. Wilson (Jane) of Decatur, AL; and a devoted and loyal caregiver for 40 years, Dorothy Daniels. Pallbearers will be Coaches Raymond Boykin, Davis Brock, Bill Joiner, “Snoozy” Jones, Ed Jones, and Bubba Lewis.  Honorary Pallbearers will be former Lanier High School Football players (1956-1968 teams) and Gregory Wright, with special thanks to the Odyssey Health Care Nurses. Memorial Contributions may be made to John Croyle’s “Big Oak Ranch”- PO Box 507 - Springville, AL 35146; “A” Club Educational & Charitable Foundation- PO Box 1961 - Tuscaloosa, AL 35403; or World Reach Missions, Inc- PO Box 26155 - Birmingham, AL 35260-0155.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 8, at Leak-Memory, from 5-7 PM, and 12-1 PM on Thursday, prior to the service.  LEAK-MEMORY CHAPEL DIRECTING.
