Franklin "Frank" Daniel Jenkins (1937-2006) - Class Of 1955

JENKINS, Mr. Franklin Daniel, a resident of Montgomery went to be with his maker on Saturday, November 18th at 12:00 PM sharp. He was born an 8th generation Alabamian on September 2, 1937 in Montgomery, Alabama to Annie Ruth Meadows Jenkins and Ned Frank Jenkins.  Franklin grew up on the family farm on Wares Ferry Road located in the Tallapoosa River valley near Mt. Meigs.  He spent many enjoyable days roaming the river and creek banks looking for Indian relics with his buddies or going on fun filled Sunday afternoon swims in Jenkins Creek with his many cousins.  In 1955, after graduating from Sidney Lanier High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force, returning four years later after tours of duty in Texas and Greenland.  He received a B.A. degree in Interior Design from Auburn University in 1963, after which he worked in Montgomery with Phil Easter Interiors as well as his own business, The Ankh.  In 1975 he moved to Eugene, Oregon for 17 years where he was very active in civic and community affairs.  In 1981 he received a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from Lewis and Clark University, after which he was employed in counseling.  In 1993 Franklin moved back home to Pike Road, Alabama where he became the primary care giver to his mother, Annie Ruth Jenkins; both living on the Taylor Road farm until her death in 2004.  As Montgomery grew to meet Pike Road, Franklin remained very active in community affairs.  Franklin is survived by sister Ruth Marie Brown (James) of Pike Road, brother Joseph E. Jenkins (Alice) of Montgomery and brother Ned J. Jenkins of Wetumpka; nephews, Robert Brown (Sheila) of Pike Road, Jason Brown (Suzanne) of Lewisville, Texas & Chase Jenkins of Troy and nieces, Cherie Brown Hamlin (Russell) of Alabaster, Audette Jenkins Bruce (William) of Jersey City, NJ., and Skye Meadows Jenkins of Rochester, New York. Franklin's great nieces and nephews are Robb Brown and J.T. Brown of Jacksonville, Fl., Heather Kline, Teresa Kline, Joey Kline, Russell Jackson Hamlin, and James Mathew Hamlin. Franklin's nieces and nephews were as his own children.  Frank is also survived by his many cousins in the J.M. Jenkins, G.C. Howell, B. Moores and Meadows families.  Visitation is scheduled for November 24th from 6:00 PM8:00 PM at Southern Memorial Funeral Home.  A Celebration of Life for Franklin will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, November 25, 2006 at First Christian Church on Taylor Road.  It will be conducted by friends that he loved with music that he loved and will be lead by his pastor Dr. Susan Diamond.  Pallbearers will be Robb Brown, Morris Dees, Chase Jenkins, Joe Shelnutt, Jimmy Pool and Robert Brown. The family will receive flowers or donations made to the Annie Ruth Jenkins Music Fund of the First Christian Church of Montgomery.  Southern Memorial Directing.
