Furman Leo "Sonny" Furlong, Jr. (1937-2016) - Class Of 1955

Furman (Sonny) Leo Furlong Jr. a resident of Fountain Valley California, passed away Tuesday March 29, 2016. He is now resting in the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Fountain Valley Historical Society Site on May 13th, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. Furman's son-in-law Pastor Douglas White will be officiating the service.

Furman was born May 13, 1937 in Montgomery, Alabama to Furman and Mary Furlong. He graduated from Lanier High School in 1954. He worked alongside of his father at the Montgomery Advertiser Newspaper in Montgomery Alabama.

He attended the University of Alabama earning a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering and a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering. He worked for NASA in Huntsville Alabama. He moved his family to California and retired from Boeing with 30 years of service.

The love of his life was Edeltraut Martha Furlong, his wife of 58 years. Together, they enjoyed traveling the world. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was an encourager to all who knew him.

Furman is survived by his wife Martha and their four children, Kathryn White and her husband Douglas of Lancaster, CA, Kenneth Furlong of Fountain Valley, CA , Steven Furlong and his wife Kathryn of Aliso Viejo, CA, Paula McCabe and her husband Patrick of Ladera Ranch, CA, six grandchildren, Amy, Stacy, Scott, Hannah, Molly and Frank, five great grandchildren, Elena, Amelia, Noah ,Harley and Clyde, his brother Jerry Furlong of Montgomery, AL. and his sister Paula Mitchell of St. Clair Shores, MI. and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Furman and Mary Furlong.
