Dr. Thomas "Tommy" E. Duke (1937-2008) - Class Of 1955

Dr. Thomas E. DUKE died un­expectedly at home Friday,March 28, 2008. He was born May 5, 1937 in Opelika, Ala­bama.  Dr. Duke was in pri­vate practice in Troy and the Director of Professional Serv­ices Division for the State of Alabama Medicaid Agency, Montgomery, Alabama until his retirement September 1, 1997.  He was a graduate of Lanier High School, Mont­gomery, Alabama, Hunting­don College, Montgomery, Alabama and the University of Alabama Dental School, Birmingham, Alabama.  He was a member or the First United Methodist Church where he sang in the chancel choir and played in the handbell choir.  He was a member of the Troy Kiwanis Club.  He was also a member of the Heart of Dixie Barbershop Chorus, an Adjunct Professorin the Biology Department, Troy University.  Dr. Duke was a member of the Third District Dental Society and Lieuten­ant Colonel (ret.) from the 650th Medical Detachment (Dental Services), Alabama Army National Guard, Bir­mingham, Alabama.  Dr. Duke is survived by his wife, Patricia Thornton Duke of Troy, children, Elizabeth Duke of Prattville, Dana J. Lea of Athens, GA, Patrick N. John­son (Robbi Johnson) of Clare­more, OK, 5 Grandchildren, Mathew Johnson (Nikki Tay­lor), Perri Jo Johnson, Ostin Johnson, Chelsea Lea, Hunter Lea, One great-grand­daughter, Madi Taylor, Broth­ers, Cecil G. Brendle, JimmyDuke, one Sister, Judy Dab­ney, numerous nieces and nephews.  Dr. Duke was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents, Lillian P. Duke and Cecil Monroe Brendle, step-father, William S. Duke and brother, Donald Day.  Funeral services will be held Monday, March 31, 2008 at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church of Troy with the Reverend Da­vid McVay and Reverend Jim Danley officiating.  Interment will follow in Green Hills Cemetery with Dillard Funeral Home of Troy directing. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.  The family requests no flowers. Memorial may be made to the First United Meth­odist Church choir fund, 213 North Three Notch Street, Troy, Alabama or the American Heart Association.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Heart of Dixie Barbershop Chorus and the Troy Kiwanis Club.  Please visit our website at www.dillardfh.com to sign the guest book.

Larry D. Skelton (1961)

Tommy and I worked together at Alabama Department of Medicaid for several  years.  It was very nice to be associated with him.  Thanks Tommy for your service to our country.
