Lawrence "Larry" Park Taylor (1922-2009) - Class Of 1941

TAYLOR, Lawrence Park, 86, of Montgomery, died at home on August 8, 2009 at 4:30 a.m. following an ex­tended illness. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at 2:00 pm with Dr. R. Lawson Bryan and Dr. Lester Spencer officiating.  Burial will follow in Green­wood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Leak Memory Chapel before the funeral service. He is survived by his wife, Macy Folmar Tay­lor, his cousins Dr. John M. Ashurst (Jean), Jay Ashurst, Jeff Ashurst (Cheryl) of Mont­gomery and Jerry Ashurst of Birmingham. He was pre­ceded in death by his moth­er, Eleanor Ruth Barnes and his father Lawrence Taylor.Lawrence graduated from Lanier High School in 1941 where he enjoyed playing in the band.  Following gradua­tion he enlisted in the Air Force in WW II and served 3 years.  Following his en­listment, he returned to Mont­gomery and worked at vari­ous jobs, with Real Estate Fi­nance Company and then with Dept. of Industrial Rela­tions, State of Alabama.  He retired in 1983. Lawrence was an admirable, gentle and generous man who loved his family and friends.  He thor­oughly enjoyed working in his yard, transforming it into a much-enjoyed garden.  He also enjoyed music, playing the organ, discussing classic cars and loved dogs of all breeds.   In lieu of flowers, do­nations to the Montgomery Humane Shelter would be ap­preciated, or to your favorite charity.  Leak-Memory Chapel Directing.  www.leak-mc.com
