Patricia Gail Cox (1956-2009) - Class Of 1974

Patricia Gail Cox of New Orleans passed away on Monday, February 9, 2009, at her home following a short illness. She was born on December 14, 1956, in Memphis, TN and was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Charles L. Cox, Jr. of Montgomery, AL.

Ms. Cox graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, Alabama and received a B.A. in Art History from the H. Sophie Newcomb Memorial College of Tulane University. In 1983, she earned a Master of Architecture degree from the Tulane University School of Architecture. She was a member of the Vieux Carre Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a variety of professional organizations.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Anne C. Teed of Charleston, WV; brother-in-law, James L. Teed; her brother, Charles A. Cox of La Grange, TN; sister-in-law, Jill W. Cox; niece, Jacqueline A. Teed; uncle, Paul R. Smith of Grand Isle, FL; aunt, Holly S. Anderson of Norman, OK; aunt, Frances C. Simonton of Palos Verdes, CA; and numerous cousins and many wonderful friends.

Patricia was a talented artist, an accomplished chef, an avid gardener, and had an appreciation for beautiful antiques. She especially loved her family, her friends, the New Orleans Jazz Festival, Mardi Gras, and her home in the Vieux Carre of New Orleans. Her ancestors were some of the first settlers in this country having arrived aboard the “Mayflower”, the “Fortune”, and the “Mary & John”. Her mother’s family was among the oldest families in New England and her father’s family was among the first settlers in Virginia and founders of Nashville, TN.

A memorial service for friends and family will be at 10:30 am, Monday, Feb. 16, 2009 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel, 411 North Rampart St, New Orleans. A private inurnment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Montgomery, AL at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Historic New Orleans Collection, 533 Royal Street, New Orleans, LA 70130.
