Robert Murray Bishop, Jr., age 74, of Eatonton, GA, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December12, 2009 at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta after a courageous battle with cancer. His strength, perseverance and compassion will always be remembered by those who knew him. Born on January 1, 1935 in Selma, Alabama, he was the son of the late Robert Murray Bishop, Sr. and Evelyn Green Bishop. A native of Montgomery, Alabama and graduate of Sidney Lanier High School, Robert Bishop graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He served in the United States Navy as a pilot for four years and continued his graduate work at the University of Alabama where he met his wife, Helen Anne Lee. For more than thirty years, he worked at Amoco Oil Company, where he retired as Director, Labor Relations. Since retirement he had lived at Reynolds Plantation and attended Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church. Bob’s love for golf, travel and music were shared with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Helen Anne Lee Bishop of Reynolds Plantation; and three children, a daughter, Bursley Bishop Hoefer and husband Steve of Dallas, TX, a son, Robert Murray Bishop, III and wife Amy of Norfolk, VA; a daughter Lee Bishop Bruebach and husband Steve of Naperville, IL; a sister, Alice Bishop Lindsey of Prattville, AL; five grandchildren, Stephen Charles Hoefer Jr., Robert Murray Bishop IV, Anne Lee Bruebach, Michael Sullivan Bruebach and Henry Baron Bishop; as well as many relatives and friends. The family will forever be grateful to the numerous friends who provided loving and prayerful support. A service of celebration and thanksgiving will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church with Father G. Phillip Ryan officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Evelyn Green Bishop Scholarship Fund at the First United Methodist Church, 2416 W. Cloverdale Park, Montgomery, AL 36106 or to Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church, 6341Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro, GA 30642.
