Felix M. Tankersley, MD (1935-2015) - Class Of 1952

Dr. Felix Tankersley, 79, died on January 31, 2015. He was born in Montgomery on July 27, 1935 to Dr. Felix Marcus Tully Tankersley and Corrie Hill Tankersley. He attended Sidney Lanier High School and Tulane University, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Dr. Tankersley served in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant, and later as a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve, before attending the University of Alabama School of Medicine.

An internship at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham was followed by residencies at both Los Angeles County General Hospital and Mobile General Hospital, where he was Chief Resident. Dr. Tankersley returned with his growing family to his hometown, Montgomery, in 1968. He had a rewarding medical practice for over 35 years, during which he delivered over 9,000 babies and served as a member of many professional and civic organizations. He also faithfully served as President of the Alabama Association of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Southeastern Obstetrical and Gynecological Society, Pioneers of Montgomery, and on the board of Sterling Bank. He was a loyal member of the Poundstone Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church and a member of First United Methodist Church.

Dr. Tankersley is survived by sons Thomas Claude Tankersley (Lucy), Felix Marcus "Tank" Tankersley (Amy), Stewart Hill Tankersley (Rebekah), and daughter Ann Tankersley Amster (Troy); grandchildren Corrie Hill Tankersley, Jack Tipton Amster, Ann Hunter Tankersley, Thomas Melton Amster, Stewart Hill Tankersley, Jr., Mary Evelyn Amster, Grace Ann Tankersley, Jon Paul Tankersley, Evelyn Towers Tankersley, Elizabeth Joy Tankersley. He is also survived by one brother, General Will Hill Tankersley, several nieces and nephews, and first cousin Alice Todd Carter, as well as many friends including those at Cara Vita Village. He was predeceased by brother, Melton Hill Tankersley.

Visitation will be on Monday, February 2, at First United Methodist Church, Montgomery from 11:30 to 1:00; funeral service will follow at 1:00. Pall Bearers will be Will Hill Tankersley, Jr., David Tankersley,Will Carter, Tank Stewart, Scott Stewart, Bobby Norman, and grandsons. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Nank Stewart, Rock O'Neill, Rex Harris, Jimmy Gantt, Jon Appleton, Bill Oswalt, Larry Chapman, Mays Jemison, Rube Thornton, Reggie Hamner, James Morton and Barry Wilson.

There will be a private burial service. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church, Gift of Life Foundation, or to the charity of choice .
