George Wilkie Pope, Jr. (1933-2015) - Class Of 1952

George Wilkie Pope, Jr. went to be with our Lord on May 30, 2015.

Mr Pope was born in 1933 in Luverne, Alabama. He graduated from Sidney Lanier High School and attended Auburn University. He later served in the US Army for two years.

He was an accountant with the State of Alabama Aeronautics department for 28 years and retired in 1993. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Montg. for 40 years, then Taylor Road Baptist Church for 30 years. He sang in the church choir.

Mr. Pope is survived by his wife of 47 years, Terry P. Pope; a son, Brent P. Pope (Stephanie); granddaughter, Taylor Pope; two sisters, Ann Wood (Gene), Blanche Champion (Tommy); brother, Dr. David Pope (Kathleen), and a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. He was a devoted Christian husband, father, and grandfather.

Funeral services to be held at Leak Memory Chapel Wednesday, June 3, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and service at 11:00.
