John Brunson Howard (1935-2004) - Class Of 1952 VIEW PROFILE

John Wilson Howard, 69, a resident of Prattville, Alabama, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 2, 2004, after an extended illness. Funeral services were held on Friday, August 6, 2004, at 2:00 p.m., from St. Mark's Episcopal Church, with the Reverend Stephen DeGweck officiating. Burial followed in Prattville Memory Gardens, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing.

Dr. Howard was a graduate of Sidney Lanier High School, Class of 1952, and was in the Sidney Lanier Marching Band. He earned a B. S. Degree from Auburn University, a Masters Degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee. He was an avid reader and a sports fan, following the Chicago Cubs and the Kentucky Wildcats.

Dr. Howard honorably served his country as a veteran of the United States Air Force Security Service from 1955 - 1959 as a Vietnamese and Indonesian linguist. Following his military tour of duty, he was a Foreign Language Specialist with the State of Alabama Board of Education. He retired after 25 years of service.

Dr Howard is survived by his beloved spouse of 42 years Ann Howard, his daughter Katherine Adair of Prattville, Alabama, his son and daughter-in-law Kevin and Courtney Howard of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and his son and daughter-in-law Quinn and Lisa Howard of Smyrna, Georgia.

Dr. Howard is also survived by nine grandchildren, his sister and brother-in-law Sandra and Bob Bryant of Marietta, Georgia. He is also survived by several nephews and one niece.

Pallbearers were Bob Bent, Al Booth, John Dunbar, Glen Grant, Bob Gray and Jim Massey.

The family received friends at the Prattville Memorial Chapel on Thursday August 4, 2004, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
