Robert M. Jones (1932-2006) - Class Of 1951

JONES, Robert M., 74, of Hunts­ville passed away Sunday.  Mr. Jones was born and reared in Montgomery by his mother, Louise Schmitz Jones, along with five other siblings, three of whom are deceased: Bryan, Bill and Carl. His surviving sib­lings are Carolyn Perry, who re­sides with her husband, Zac Perry, of Montgomery and George ‘Snoozy’ Jones who re­sides with his wife, Agatha, of Birmingham. After graduation from Sidney Lanier High School in 1951, he joined the Marine Corps and served in Korea.  Following a short work period with Alabama Power, Co., he entered Auburn, graduating in 1959. When he married Sue Conner of Montgomery in 1957, he married into a fine Christian family. After some moving around, the Joneses settled in Huntsville, in 1963, rearing two sons, Robin Delma who lives in Birmingham with his wife, Cynthia and three chil­dren, Daniel, Matthew and Sar­ah, and D. Ashley who lives in Huntsville with his wife, Cyndi and three sons, Conner, Caleb and Alex. His wife, Sue, pre­ceded him in death, passing away in January 1993. Mr.Jones is also survived by a dear brother-in-law and wife, Lon and Carolyn Conner.  In 1963, he went to work fort he NIKE-X project office, which was the forerunner of today’s Ballistic Defense Missile Pro­gram.  He retired in 1996. He was a long time member of Mayfair and Twickenham Churches of Christ.  The visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The fu­neral service will be at 1 p.m.Wednesday at the funeral home chapel with Brother Gary Bradley officiating.  Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to the Huntsville Inner City Church of Christ, a congre­gation striving to meet the spirit­ual and physical needs of in­ner city families.
