Camilla Hamilton (Lowry) (1933-2006) - Class Of 1951

 LOWRY, Camilla Hamilton, a long time resident of Auburn, AL. died at Bethany House Hospice Center on July 11, 2006 after a long valiant fight with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman Hardy Hamilton and Delma Ferguson Warner. She is survived by her husband of forty nine years, Dr. James Lee Lowry, retired Auburn University Professor of Electrical Engineering; three children: Margaret Lowry Knox (Kelley) of Atlanta, GA, James W. Lowry (Kathleen) of Nashville, TN, and William McMorris “Mac” Lowry of Huntsville, AL; three grandchildren Kasey Ruth Lowry, Thomas James Lowry, and Robbie Knox; a brother, Herman H. Hamilton, Jr. (Kitty) of Montgomery and Davidson, N.C.; several nieces and nephews; and a devoted family friend Mattie Tolbert. Camilla was a long time member of Auburn First Baptist Church where she served as a Deacon, a Sunday School teacher and on various committees. She served two terms as President of the Alabama State Women’s Missionary Union and as a delegate to the Southern Baptist Convention. Camilla was born in Russelville, AL, on July 22, 1933. She was raised in Montgomery, graduated from Sidney Lanier High School, graduated from Jud-son College (1955) where she served as class president for four years. She received an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Judson College for her service to the college, the Baptist Church and her community. She was a member of the Mary Martha Sunday School Class and the Auburn Chapter of the PEO. Services will be held at the Auburn First Baptist Church on Saturday, July 15, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. Reverends John Jeffers and Jim Evans will officiate, accompanied by Mr. Dale Peterson. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 14, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Jeffcoat Funeral Home. The family requests that gifts be made to the Auburn First Baptist Church Building Fund in lieu of flowers.
