Rev. Jack Ewell Ray (1927-2014) - Class Of 1948

Reverend Jack Ewell Ray, age 86, of Starr, husband of Sybil Moore Ray, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at his residence.

Born in Montgomery, AL, on April 28, 1927 he was the son of the late Albert and Estell Densmore Ray. He graduated from Sydney Lanier High School and Huntingdon College in Montgomery AL.; he got his Bachelor of Divinity from Emory University in 1957. He was ordained Elder for United Methodist Church in 1957. Reverend Ray served Government Street United Methodist and Sara Land United Methodist in AL. He became a member of the South Carolina Conference in 1956, serving the following charges; Black Swamp, Branchville, Norway, Lynchburg, Jonesville/New Hope, Calhoun Falls, John Wesley and Bethel.

He is survived by a loving wife of 57 years, Sybil Moore Ray; daughter, Rosa Dawn Ray Waddell of Jonesville, SC; two grandsons; Charlie and Jack Waddell; sisters-in-law; Geraldine Hall Ray of Wetumpka, AL.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Ray.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Starr United Methodist Church with Reverend Robert Eubanks officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Gardens. Reverend Ray will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday, March 31, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
