Jack E. Loftin (1929-2013) - Class Of 1947

Jack E. Loftin, age 84, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at his Prattville, Alabama home. Jack was married to the late Clara Taylor of Prattville for 65 years. He was born in Sandy Ridge on April 21, 1929, the eighth of eight children to the late Thomas E. and Mary Ellis Loftin. Siblings preceding him in death include Pearl Smith, Edwina Sheehan, Mary Ella McCrary, Clara Taylor, Ellis Loftin, Walter Loftin, and Gordon Loftin. He was also preceded in death by great-grandson, Tate Jones. He is survived by daughters Dianne (Bob) Brooke, Deb McCurdy, Delain (Randell) Smith; and son Danny (Gretchen) Loftin; grandchildren Hayden (Amanda) Brooke, Todd (Colette) Brooke, Courtney (Heath) Gray, Christina (David) Jones, Chase (Bethany) Loftin, Chelsea Loftin, Clay Loftin (fiancée Rachel Grierson), Steve (Cindy) Mullis, McKenzie Smith, Mitchell Smith, and Kimberly (Kenny) Strength; and nineteen great-grandchildren. Jack spent much of his life as a resident of Montgomery where he was co-owner and operator of Loftin Brothers Transportation Co., Inc. and enjoyed driving a truck cross-country. He enjoyed working on every Wallace gubernatorial and presidential campaign. The family expresses special thanks to caregivers Shannon Sweatt and Baptist Hospice staff Tracey Dailey and Bea Burch for their love, care, and concern. Family and friends are invited to join the family at 12:00 at Prattville Memorial Chapel for visitation until funeral services at 2:00 and burial following at Prattville Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be son Danny Loftin, grandsons, Chase Loftin, Clay Loftin, Steve Mullis, Mitchell Smith, and nephew Billy Smith.
