Reginald M. Woodall (1928-2018) - Class Of 1946

Reginald M. "Regie/Woody" Woodall, 90 years old, passed away on April 21, 2018, at VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach, Florida.

Woody was born in Montgomery, Alabama, on April 13, 1928. After graduating from Sidney Lanier High School, he received his master's degree from the University of Alabama. He began his teaching career in Pippa Pass, Kentucky, then Moultrie, Georgia, and later taught at Auburndale High School in Florida.

He enjoyed a long and illustrious tenure at Indian River Community College (IRCC), now a state college in Ft. Pierce, Florida. At Indian River, he received IRSC's Pioneer Award, served as faculty sponsor for Phi Theta Kappa, as a judge for the IRCC Brain Bowl, co-sponsored the Art Club, an editor for the SACS review, and a member on the AAUP team for negotiating contracts. He retired in September 1995 and was awarded an Emeritus title. At his recent birthday celebration in the Mueller Center at IRSC, the Reginald M. Woodall Endowed Scholarship was established in his honor.

Woody taught English literature and grammar for 32 years and took hundreds of college students on educational tours around the world.

Among Woody's many passions were opera, musical theater, Romantic poetry, Shakespeare, Thomas Jefferson, and sharing his knowledge with the many fortunate people he met.

Survivors include his cousins, Sherryl (Mike) Wozney and family, and Jim Bates, (son Zach), Dr. Randall Kornegay and family, Montgomery, Alabama, and countless faithful and lifelong friends.

Woody is preceded in death by his parents, James and Carrie Woodall, step-mother, Lillie, brothers, Harold (Eleanor) and James Kidd (Ruby) and by his beloved cousins, Martha Ann Bates and Barbara Kornegay.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Vero Beach, FL, on May 19th, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow. A graveside service will be held on June 30th at Oakwood Annex Cemetery in Montgomery, AL.
