Gertrude "Gert" Eatman (Ellis) (1928-2012) - Class Of 1946

Gertrude Eatman Ellis, 83, passed away Monday , March 19th. She was the daughter of the late Richard Marvin Eatman, Sr. and Elizabeth Vaughan Eatman and Lorraine Fisher Eatman. She is a 1946 graduate of Sidney Lanier High School. In 1946, she married Frank Compton Ellis, and they recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. Gertrude retired from the Automotive Wholesale Association after 49 years of service. She was a faithful member of Trinity Presbyterian Church where she will be remembered fondly for her many years of service as a Sunday School teacher for 2 and 3 year olds. She was loved by so many for her thoughtful and caring heart, always remembering her family and friends with cards and gifts on their special days. Gertrude was a fine example of selflessness. Even until the day of her death, she continued to put the needs of her husband above her own. In addition to her husband, Frank, she is survived by her sister, Claire Gilmore, her brother, Richard Eatman; two sons, the Rev. Frank C. Ellis, Jr. (Joan), Ozark, and Mike Ellis (Janet), Prattville; three grandsons, Drew Ellis, Frank Compton Ellis, III and Ben Hilley; four granddaughters, Martha Ann Ellis, Hannah Crisler, Elizabeth Hilley and Katherine Hilley, and a number of nieces and nephews. Graveside Services will be held at Greenwood Cemetery on Thursday, March 22nd at one p.m., with the Rev. Claude E. McRoberts, III officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:30 - 1:00 at Leak Memory Chapel. Memorials may be sent to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1728 S. Hull Street, Montgomery, AL 36104, or the charity of your choice .
