Ethel Mae "Jinx" Barry (Jenkins) (1922-2008) - Class Of 1943 VIEW PROFILE

Ethel Barry "Jinx" Jenkins died on January 3, 2008, at the age of 85. Jinx's guardian angel joyously welcomed her into the eternal home of her Lord Jesus. She is preceded in death by her mother, Ida Todd Barry Meeks, an infant daughter, Barbara Gail Jenkins, two brothers, Richard Hayden Bar­ry, Jr and Rodney Worthing­ton Barry, and two sisters, in­fant Lena Barry and Ida Ruth Barry Ozier Terry.

Jinx is survived by her devot­ed husband, Forrest Stanley''Stan'' Jenkins, (Retired Major USAF); a son, Stanley ''Stan'' Todd Jenkins, Sr (Beryl) of Federal Way, Washington, and two daughters, Janet ''Jill'' Jenkins Sherman (Eric) of Tuscaloosa AL and Angel Fire NM, and Jennifer Jenkins McConnell (Forrest III) of Montgomery AL. She is also survived by thir­teen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, rela­tives and friends. Her grand­children are Forrest McCon­nell IV and Andrew McCon­nell of Montgomery AL; Jenni­fer Sherman Weeks (Stan) of Enterprise AL; Julianne Sher­man, Tuscaloosa AL; and Ja­mie Sherman of Pensacola FL; S. Todd Jenkins, Jr., Joshua A. Jenkins, and Laleña Jen­kins Pollitt (Chris), all of the Se­attle WA area; Donald C. Jen­kins (Heather) of Ransom Canyon TX; Stephanie (Je­nkins) Hegeman (Joel) of Jacksonville FL; Leigh (Je­nkins) Mains (Jeff) of Plano TX; Jenifer F. Thayer of Scotts­dale AZ; and Steven Thayer of Olympia WA.

Jinx was born, Dec 17, 1922,and was reared in Montgom­ery AL where she attended school at Forest Avenue Elementary, Clo­verdale Junior High and Sidney Lanier High School. In 1943 she began a career as a homemaker and followed her husband through 25years of military service with assignments in several states, Japan, the Azores, and John­ston Island. Eleven of the last twelve years of military serv­ice were at Maxwell Air Force Base (HQ Air University) and Gunter Air Force Station (HQ 14th Air Force), AL.

Jinx loved her family, friends, and her church, Dalraida United Methodist, where she was a long time member and where she supported the youth program and the Meth­odist Children's Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to one of these organizations or another charity. A memorial service was held at 11:30 am on Satur­day, January 5, 2008 at Dal­raida United Methodist Church, 3817 Atlanta High­way Montgomery AL, with the Reverend Paul B. Turner and Reverend Ed Deabler officiating. A visi­tation and celebration fol­lowed at the McConnell home. Interment will be a private family service at a later date.
