Susan Moore (Simmons) (1928-2018) - Class Of 1945

Susan Moore Simmons, 89, died April 13, 2018, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana after suffering a stroke. She was preceded in death by her daughter Mary Rebecca Simmons, her granddaughter Fiona Cunningham Simmons, by an unborn grandchild, her parents and her stepfather Richard Bruce Smith, and her former husband C.K. Simmons, Sr.

Susan was born October 29, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois to James Clifton Moore and Nancy Gladys Daniel Moore of Bogalusa, Louisiana. Susan was reared in Angie, Bogalusa and New Orleans and graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, Alabama. She graduated with honors in 1949 from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (ULL) where she was elected a Campus Beauty for three years and was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority.

Susan married Charles K. Simmons of Bogalusa and raised three children in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Hattiesburg and Jackson, Mississippi. Susan loved gardening and history, singing and family history, the great composers, and cats - especially Beauregard.

Mrs. Simmons is survived by her sons, Thomas Daniel Simmons and wife Patricia Cunningham Simmons of Moore South Carolina, and Charles Kenneth Simmons, Jr. and wife Janet Calcote Simmons of Baton Rouge; seven grandchildren Amanda S. Chung (Shad), Southaven Mississippi. Lisa S. Corley (Matthew), Savannah Georgia. Thomas McDaniel Simmons, Steubenville Ohio. Charles Michael Simmons (Katherine), Dallas, Texas. Kelli S. Collins (Jason), Baton Rouge. William Moore Simmons, New Orleans. Jonathan Tre Simmons, Baton Rouge; and by seven great-grandchildren: Jaycee & Trace Corley, Alexis Chung, Mims, Owen & Tyler Claire Collins, and Corrie Elizabeth Simmons.

Interment will be May 5 at the Daniel Family Cemetery, Star Hill Plantation, St. Francisville, Louisiana.
