William Warren Belser, Jr. (1926-2015) - Class Of 1945

William Warren Belser, Jr., age 88, of Birmingham and Montgomery, Alabama, was born December 23, 1926 in Montgomery and died at 1:30 PM on November 28 after pancreatic cancer. He was the son of William Warren Belser and Martha Settle Belser and was preceded in death by his two parents and his two sisters, Patretia Anne Lawrence and Nancy Maury Ashurst.

He received a Latin diploma from Sidney Lanier High School, Montgomery, Alabama and was graduated from the University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee with BA Optime Merens.

During World War II, he served in the US Infantry. After college, he worked for Standard-Vacuum Oil Company, the Far East subsidiary of the present Exxon Mobil Corporation. His work in the Far East took him to Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, India and Sri Lanka.

Upon returning to the United States, he worked for Stern, Agee and Leach in Birmingham until his death. He was a staunch Episcopalian serving in various capacities at the Cathedral Church of the Advent and at Sewanee.

From his school days throughout his life, he was a very avid golfer, and when the subject of holes-in-one was brought up, he did report on occasion that he had had holes-in-one on three of the five continents but always added that he had never played golf in South America or Africa.

His survivors are his wife, Maud Gisile Coirier Belser; his son, William Warren Belser, III; daughter-in-law Elizabeth Martin Belser; his granddaughters, Catherine Louise Belser and Adrienne Elizabeth Belser; his niece Anne Lawrence Pierce and nephews Walter Glenn Bowron, Jr. and Warren Belser Bowron.

A memorial service will be held at the Cathedral Church of the Advent Wednesday, December 2 at to 2:30 P.M. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. The burial will be private at the family plot in Montgomery.

The family suggests any memorials been made to the Cathedral Church of the Advent or a favorite charity.
