Joseph S. Lushington, Jr., passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2011 after a long illness. He was a native and life long resident of Montgomery. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph S. Lushington, Sr, & Bertha Viola Pickens Lushington. 

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Blenda M. Lushington, his brother Jerry A. (Patsy) Lushington of Bessemer, his daughters, Cathy (Jim) Whelton of Mobile, Joy Lushington of Montgomery, and Julie (Barry) Underwood of Birmingham, and his son, Mike (Celeste) Lushington of Hoover. He is survived by his beloved grandchildren Patrick and Brian (Sharon) Whelton, Andy Lushington, Marshall and Julia Grace Underwood, Andrew (Kristen) Lushington, Ellie and Haley Lushington. 

He was a devoted grandfather and loved nothing better than to spend time with his grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous cousins and friends He served in the Army Air Corps at the end of World War II. He was a graduate of Lanier High School and Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University). He served as a Customer Engineer for IBM in the Montgomery office for 44 years.

Funeral services will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Saturday.

Active pallbearers will be, Jim Whelton, Barry Underwood, Andy Lushington, Marshall Underwood, Andrew Lushington and Patrick & Brian Whelton.Serving as Honorary pallbearers will be retirees of IBM.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Woodly Manor for their care of Mr. Lushington over the past 2 1/2 years. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Our Lady Queen of Mercy Catholic Church or your favorite charity.
