HAYES, Frank T., Jr, “Jeep”, 82, a resident of Montgomery passed away January 29, 2008 at his residence. Memorial services will be Saturday, February 2, 2008 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Mr. Hayes was born in November 1925. He attended Montgomery Public Schools and graduated from Sidney Lanier in 1943. He played football at Lanier from 1941-43 and was elected captain of the team in 1943, also that year he made all-state and was selected to the all south team. He joined the Marines in 1944 until 1946 and participated in Ira Jima and Okinawa invasions. In 1946 he was offered football scholarships from Alabama, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Auburn. He accepted to Auburn and played Center and Linebacker during 1946, 47 , 48 and 49. He was invited to the Blue/Grey game in 1949 along with teammate Travis Tidwell, which was won by the south 21-14. He graduated from Auburn in 1950. He was a member of the Auburn Lettermans Club, the Auburn Alumni of Montgomery and a charter member of the All American Football Foundation. Mr. Hayes is preceded in death by his first wife, Joanne Sawyer Hayes; and two sisters Otelia Jones and Frances Glarrow. Survivors include his wife Margie M. Hayes; children, Karen Hayes Fisher, Kelly Hayes and Frank T. Hayes, III; grandchildren, Brody and Tommy Fisher; great-grandchildren, Alexand Caroline Fisher; one sister, Mame Lee Overton; stepchildren, Jeffrey Grimm (Ann)and Julie Woltjen (Mark); stepgrandchildren, Kyle, Matthew and Michael Grimm and Lauren and Shelby Woltjen. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to the Montgomery Cancer Center or to the Auburn University Football Letterman’s Club. LEAK-MEMORY CHAPEL
