Frank Compton Ellis (1926-2014) - Class Of 1944

Frank Compton Ellis, 88, passed away Thursday, June 12th. He was the son of the late Clyde Lee Ellis, Sr. and Grady Compton Ellis. He was a 1944 graduate of Sidney Lanier High School and attended Auburn University. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Frank was a faithful member of Trinity Presbyterian Church where he served as a member of Chancel Choir, was a Sunday School teacher and was Deacon emeritus. Frank was a longtime member and past president of the Exchange Club of Montgomery.

He was preceded in death by wife of 62 years, Gertrude Eatman Ellis. He is survived by two sons, the Rev. Frank C. Ellis, Jr. (Joan), Ozark, and Mike Ellis (Janet), Prattville; three grandsons, Drew Ellis, Frank Compton Ellis III and Ben Hilley; four granddaughters, Martha Ann Ellis Hight (Wes), Hannah Crisler, Elizabeth Hilley, Katherine Hilley and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 16th at 1:00PM in the sanctuary of Trinity Presbyterian Church with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Frank C. Ellis, Jr. and the Rev. Michael Howell officiating. Visitation will take place prior to the service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Trinity Church.

Pallbearers will be Mike Ellis, Drew Ellis, Frank Compton Ellis III, Ben Hilley, Wes Hight and Sonny Herron. The members of the Robert Strong Sunday School class will be the honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Ozark Presbyterian Church, 187 South East Ave., Ozark, AL 36360, where his son, Frank, serves as pastor.

The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the staff of Hickory Hill Assisted Living in Prattville for the loving care they provided Frank during his time with them. Frank's family and friends will fondly remember him for his quick wit and sweet spirit, and he will be greatly missed.
