Samuel Leopold Schloss, Jr. (1926-2006) - Class Of 1943

SCHLOSS, Samuel Leopold, 80, life-long resident of Montgomery, AL, passed away at his home Friday, April 21, after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, Burke Klein Schloss, sons Burkhart Stephen Schloss (Jean), Samuel Adam Schloss (Dawn), daughter Alyce Schloss Butner (Russell), grandsons Hunter Samuel Schloss, Colin Burkhart Schloss, Davis Samuel Butner, and Zachary Edward Butner. Mr. Schloss was a graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology and Columbia University. He served in the US Navy from 1944-1946 and later as a captain in the Air Force Reserves. He was past chairman of Schloss & Kahn, Inc., a major food-service distributor, as well as president or chairman of numerous civic organizations: The Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce, Central Alabama Red Cross, United Way, The Montgomery Academy, Temple Beth Or, Alabama Society for Crippled Children and Adults, the Standard Club, and the Montgomery Rotary Club. He was also on the boards of Union Bank, YMCA, Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, Montgomery Council on Aging, Committee of One Hundred, and Montgomery County Historical Society. Honors include Rotary Club Paul Harris Fellow, Sidney Lanier High School’s Hall of Fame, and the 1995 Trailblazer Award from Institutional Distribution Magazine. Sam’s passions were amateur radio and aviation. Funeral services will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Monday, April 24, at 2 PM with Rabbi Emeritus David Baylinson and Rabbi Kenneth Segel officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at Leak Memory Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that do-nations be sent to your favorite charity. Leak-Memory Chapel Directing
