Buford Cosby Bird, Jr. (1925-2011) - Class Of 1943

Mr. Buford Cosby Bird, Jr., 86, of Dunwoody, GA died Friday, December 16, 2011. Cosby was the only child of the late Dr. Buford Cosby Bird, Sr. and Chevis Strong Bird. After graduating from Sidney Lanier High School, he served with the 551st MPEG Company during World War II. Following his military service, Mr. Bird attended and graduated from Southern Tech. Buford retired from Lockheed Aircraft after 40 years as an electrical technician. He was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Christine Cobern Bird, his three children, Charles and his wife Sue Bird of Burlington, VT, Tina and her husband Steve Byers of Easley, SC, Betty Peppers of Braselton, GA, 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Lynda Chevis Kwok on September 24, 2003. Buford was led the Lord by his former pastor, Waldo Mullen. Mr. Bird was a loving hardworking husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, with a tremendous sense of humor. He loved the outdoors, especially bird watching. Thank you to all who showed loving kindness to him during his lifetime. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Sandy Springs Chapel. Interment will follow in Arlington Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Bird's memory to Metropolitan Baptist Church, 4795 Peachtree Dunwoody Rd. NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30342. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Sandy Springs Chapel 136 Mt. Vernon Hwy. NE Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
