Malcolm "Mac" Burke Horrell, Jr. (1922-2006) - Class Of 1941

HORRELL, Mr. Malcom "Mac" Burke, Jr., age 84, of Sandy Springs, Georgia, died Sunday, June 25, 2006. A native of Montgomery, Alabama, Mac graduated from Sidney Lanier High School and Auburn University in 1944 with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering.  He was a member of Pi Tau Sigma, an honorary engineering fraternity and Sigma Nu, social fraternity, in which he served as vice-president and president. He married Ann Dunlap in 1944 and served in the U.S. Naval Air Corps for 2 1/2 years. Upon separation from the service, he and Ann returned to Montgomery where he became associated with Solomon Brothers Company, Inc., directing sales over the southeastern U.S.  He later became vice-president and part owner of the company. Mac is survived by his wife, Ann Dunlap Horrell;  his daughter and son-in-law, Gail Horrell Busby and Robert "Bob" Busby, Jr.; his son, Malcolm "Jock" Burke Horrell, III; grandchildren, Wesley Todd Busby, Caroline Lauren Busby and Alana Marie Horrel and his great-granddaughter, Ava McKenzie Busby. Other survivors include his brother-in-law, David F. Dunlap and his wife, Jane and their three children, Mary Leigh, Julie Ann and John Scott Dunlap; his sister-in-law, Elinor Dunlap Perry and her son, Robert T. Perry, Jr. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 27 at 1 p.m. at St. James United Methodist Church with Dr. Albert E. Clarke officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park, The family will receive friends Monday evening, June 26 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Patterson's Arlington Chapel.
