Virginia Howard Hicks (Shaw) (1921-2012) - Class Of 1941

Virginia Hicks Shaw, 91, of Montgomery, passed away on January 25, 2012 Mrs. Shaw started her work career at J C Penny's and later worked for the State of Alabama retiring in 1984 from Pensions and Security. She was a member of Capitol Heights United Methodist Church. "Muddy," as she was called by her family, was born January 22, 1921, in Butler County, to Katie (Brown) Hicks and Robert O. Hicks. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Edward Shaw and sisters, Elsie McGowin of Pensacola, FL and Yvonne (Elbia) Hall of California. She is survived by three children, Donna (Paul) Werking and Patricia Lewis of Montgomery, AL and Robert (Mary Ellen) Shaw of Maylene, AL, step sister Beverly Mustin of Montgomery and half sister Mildred (Cooper) Blair of Dothan, AL, grandchildren Joy McCraine, Michael Lewis, David Werking, Dusty Shaw and Daniel Shaw, 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Thelma and Vicki, her caregivers, Amedisys Hospice, and to all the many people who touched her life. May God bless you. Mrs. Shaw will be cremated and the family will receive friends at Southern Memorial Funeral & Crematorium on January 28, 2012 from 10 to 11 a.m. with a memorial service following. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the local Animal Shelter or your favorite charity.
