M. Elizabeth "Betty" Gauntt (Gilmer) (1924-2005) - Class Of 1941

GILMER, Elizabeth, 81, died in Gadsden, AL on Wednesday, May 11, 2005 after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2005 at 2:00 pm at Leak Memory Chapel with Reverend Mark Springer officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday, May 14, 2005 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Leak Memory Chapel. Mrs. Gilmer was a member of First Baptist Church, Montgomery, AL. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a caring friend to all who knew her. Her sweet smile, quick wit, and loving disposition will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Marshall and Eleanor Johnston Gauntt, brother, William Lane Gauntt, husband, Edward D. Gilmer, Jr., and step-daughter, Lib Lowery. She is survived by her son, Thomas M. (Patsy) McElrath, Gadsden, AL, step-daughter, Priscilla Dixon, Alexandria, VA, grandchildren: Heather M. (Jason) Simmons, Helena, AL, Holly M. (Jeremy) Griffin, Glencoe, AL, Jennifer Dixon, Alexandria, VA, and Alex Lowery, Montgomery, AL, great-grandchildren: Anna Katherine Simmons and Marshall Grant Griffin, sister-in-law, Mrs. Richard Webster (Ann), Montgomery, AL. She was a lifelong resident of Montgomery, AL and served for many faithful years as a Red Cross volunteer at Jackson Hospital, Montgomery, AL. Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Simmons, Jeremy Griffin, Ricky Webster, Randy Cloud, Danny Thompson, and Dean Azar. Special thanks are extended to Dr. Juan Chung and staff and the many special friends who cared for her during her health and illness.
