The daughter of Claude L. Ray and Elizabeth Durr Fitzpatrick Ray, Claudia graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, AL, in 1938. She was the sister of Eugene Driver Ray (Lanier Class of 1930), Alva Fitzpatrick Ray (Lanier Class of 1933), Mary Elizabeth "Sis" Ray (Spottswood) (Lanier Class of 1934), and Clara Frances Ray (Boyle) (Lanier Class of 1946).
She married Martin Timberlake, who was stationed at Maxwell Field at the time they met, and they had two sons:
