Henry Albert Brooks, MSGT, Usaf (1918-2007) - Class Of 1938

BROOKS, Henry Albert, MSgt USAF (Ret.), 88, passed away at home on Saturday, January 6, 2007, after a lengthy illness. He is survived by Mary Lynn Brooks, his wife of sixty-three years; granddaughters, Alison Tuley Shaw (Scott) of Chatta­nooga, Tennessee and Claire Thérèse Tuley of Fairfax Station,Virginia; two great grandsons, Morgan Brooks Shaw and McClain Stewart Shaw; one sis­ter, Sara Bulen (Bill) of Tucson,Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews and their fami­lies.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Nannie and Jim Brooks; daughter Nadia Brooks Tuley; one sister; and three brothers.Albert was born in Montgomery on July 5, 1918.  He was a member of Capitol Heights United Methodist Church for eighty years longer than any other person in the history of the church. Albert's love of Capitol Heights was un­surpassed, and he was a faith­ful servant to the church in ev­ery possible way, especially through his dedication to the music program, and through his leadership and stewardship. Albert's deep love for his family and his church was matched by his love for his country. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor he enlisted in the Army Air Corps on March 13, 1942. He was transferred overseas to England, and served on a B-17 bomber, flying more than thirty missions over the European the­ater. His military career with the Air Force spanned twenty-five years, three wars, and four continents, and he retired on October 31, 1967. Albert wast he recipient of the Distin­guished Flying Cross, Air Medal (four clusters), and Air Force Commendation Medal.  Funeral services will be on Tuesday, January 9 at 10:00 a.m. at Capitol Heights United Method­ist Church, followed by a graveside service at Green­wood Cemetery with full mili­tary honors. Visitation will be at Leak-Memory Chapel on Mon­day from 5:00 to 7:00. The Reverends Sam Persons-Parkes, Gary Daniel, and Richard Free­man will officiate. Pallbearers will be Don Akey, Rusty Brooks,Haywood Cowles, Erbie Rain­water, Don Rice, Scott Shaw, Jim Tuley, and Michael Tuley.Honorary pallbearers will be Phillip Henning, the Chancel Choir, and the Gleaners Sun­day School Class.  In lieu of flow­ers, memorials may be made to the Nadia Brooks Tuley Scholarship Fund at Hunting­don College or the Music De­partment at Capitol Heights United Methodist Church.  Leak-Memory Funeral Home Directing
