BYRNE, Margaret Jenkins Gibbons, 88, died Saturday, December 8, 2007, at home following an extended illness. A longtime resident of Montgomery, she was a native of Jackson, Miss. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church by the Rev. Robert Wisnewski. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery Annex. The family will receive friends in the parish house one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Byrne was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Dr. Haynes C. Byrne; a grandson, Stephen Zachary Foster and two sisters, Marie G. Moon and Elizabeth Flowers G. Hanson. She was a graduate of Sidney Lanier High School, attended the University of Montevallo and graduated from Huntingdon College. She retired in 1988 after a long career as a bookkeeper. Survivors include a son, Haynes Crawford Byrne Jr. of Montgomery; three daughters, Margaret Graham “Peggy” Byrne of Montevallo, Elizabeth Eloise “Libby” Byrne of Montgomery and Laura B. Morgan, also of Montevallo; a grandson, Samuel I. Morgan; a granddaughter, Laura Elizabeth Morgan and granddaughter-in-law, Stephanie Ford Foster; a brother, Samuel H. Gibbons; two sisters, Laura G. Schwarz and Katherine G.Ott; a special family friend, Lillie Howard Day and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be David Gibbons, Mike McGuire, Woodward D. Lamar Jr., Frank Fryer, Marc Stauch and Kenneth Day. Memorials may be made to the St. John’s Building Fund or to the charity of one’s choice. Southern Memorial Directing.
