Margaret Jenkins Gibbons (Byrne) (1919-2007) - Class Of 1937

BYRNE, Margaret Jenkins Gib­bons, 88, died Saturday, De­cember 8, 2007, at home fol­lowing an extended illness.  A longtime resident of Mont­gomery, she was a native of Jackson, Miss.  Funeral serv­ices will be conducted Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church by the Rev. Robert Wisnewski.  Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery Annex.  The family will receive friends in the parish house one hour prior to the service.  Mrs. Byrne was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Dr. Haynes C. Byrne; a grandson, Stephen Zachary Foster and two sisters, Marie G. Moon and Elizabeth Flowers G. Han­son.  She was a graduate of Sidney Lanier High School, at­tended the University of Mon­tevallo and graduated from Huntingdon College.  She re­tired in 1988 after a long ca­reer as a bookkeeper.  Survivors include a son, Hay­nes Crawford Byrne Jr. of Montgomery; three daugh­ters, Margaret Graham “Peg­gy” Byrne of Montevallo, Elizabeth Eloise “Libby” Byrne of Montgomery and Laura B. Morgan, also of Montevallo; a grandson, Samuel I. Mor­gan; a granddaughter, Laura Elizabeth Morgan and grand­daughter-in-law, Stephanie Ford Foster; a brother, Samuel H. Gibbons; two sisters, Laura G. Schwarz and Katherine G.Ott; a special family friend, Lil­lie Howard Day and several nieces and nephews. Pall­bearers will be David Gib­bons, Mike McGuire, Wood­ward D. Lamar Jr., Frank Fry­er, Marc Stauch and Kenneth Day. Memorials may be made to the St. John’s Build­ing Fund or to the charity of one’s choice.  Southern Memorial Directing.
