Julia Frances Armstrong (Bannon) 1920-2010) - Class Of 1937

BANNON, Julia Armstrong died January 4, 2010, after a brief illness. She was 89.  A me­morial service to celebrate her life will be held Thursday, January 7, 2010 at 1:30 P.M. at Leak-Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, Ala. Visitation will precede the services at 12:30 P.M. at Leak-Memory Chapel. The service will be officiated by Dr. Frank Covington, senior pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Auburn, Ala. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Julia is survived by her husband of 66 years, Rob­ert W. Bannon; two sons, James (Susan) of Auburn, Ala., and Michael (Becky) of Wetumpka, Ala. She adored her three grandchildren; Brad Bannon and Rob Bannon of Auburn,  Ala., and Laura Ban­non of Birmingham, Ala.  She is survived by her sister, Helen Struthers of Montgomery, Ala.,and five nieces: Gail Ramsey of White Plains, Ga., Ann Hen­dricks of Montgomery, Ala., Susan Jervis, Linda Atkins and Roberta Bannon of Auburn, NY; and one nephew, Ed­ward Struthers of Mobile, Ala.  She was the daughter of San­ford Carroll and Ethel Bass Armstrong of Montgomery.  She joined the Robert F. Henry Tile Co. in 1938 and served as secretary-treasurer until her retirement in 1992. She loved her family and friends, and she was a gracious hostess.  She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Mont­gomery.  In lieu of flowers do­nations may be made to a favorite charity. Pallbearers will be Rob Bannon, Brad Bannon, Robert F. Henry, Jr.,  Edward Struthers, William Hen­dricks and Jonathan Hen­dricks.  Leak-Memory Chapel Directing. www.leak-mc.com
