Weldon Williamson Doe, Jr. (1918-2011) - Class Of 1935

DOE, Weldon Williamson, 92, died at his home in Montgomery on February 1, 2011.  He was preceded in death by his father, Weldon Williamson Doe;  mother, Frances Pelzer Doe;  his two sisters, Eva Pelzer Doe and Frances Elizabeth Doe.  He is survived by his wife of 63 years Rebecca Sellers Doe; children Weldon Doe, III (Kappy), Frances Dozier (Vaughan), Becky Woodruff (Doug); twelve grandchildren: Caroline Gilreath (Kyle), Jenny Lipper (Byron), Rebecca Doe, Weldon Doe, IV, Vaughan Dozier, Jr. (Jen), Julie McCroskey (Jeremiah), Laura McClendon (Wade), Emily Dozier, Caroline Stone (Adam), Woody Woodruff, Webber Woodruff, Ginger Anne O'Ferrell (Dean) and eight great grandchildren. He is a life long resident of Montgomery, having graduated from Lanier High School before attending The Citadel where he was Captain of the Golf Team.  After graduation he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the Pacific theater, including a tour in Okinawa.  During the War he received three Bronze Stars.  After the War he remained in the Air Force Reserve and returned to Montgomery where he was an investment banker for many years.  He served as a Deacon, Elder, and Trustee of Covenant Presbyterian Church, and established a Scholarship Fund there for children who desire a Christian education.  After a private graveside service, a memorial service will be held on February 3, 2011 at 11:00 am at Covenant Presbyterian Church with Rev. Lee Bloodworth officiating.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Scholarship Fund, Covenant Presbyterian Church, 5 Arden Road, Montgomery, AL 36109.
