Mary L. Helms (Campbell) (1916-2005) - Class Of 1934

Mary Louise Campbell of Montgomery, Alabama, the daughter of Ernest and Lola Leona Dean Helms, was born in Jackson, Mississippi, on May 25, 1916. Ms. Campbell grew up with her brothers, Ernest and Charles, and sisters, Dean and Jo in Mobile, Tuscaloosa and Montgomery, Alabama.

Mrs. Campbell graduated Sidney Lanier High School in 1934 and was a charter member of the Cloverdale Church of Christ where she met her husband, Barney J. Campbell, in 1938. She moved with her husband to Dallas, Texas, in 1939. Her three surviving children, Grace, Charles Andrew, and Kathleen, were born in Dallas before the family returned to Montgomery in 1953.

Moving once again to Dallas in 1957 and then in 1958 to a new home in Farmer's Branch, Texas, where they lived for eleven years. Returning to Montgomery in 1969, they again worshiped with the Cloverdale Church of Christ.

Mrs. Campbell was a baby sitter for many years. She is survived by her three children, and her son-in-law, Jerry Harwell; brother-in-law and sister, Jack and Jo Booth, her sister-in-law, Anne Frize, her cousin, Lea Patterson and numerous relatives and friends.

A special thank you to the Montgomery Geriatric and Associates, as well as Horizons Hospice, 20/20 Opthalmics, Smile Consultants, Rite Aid Pharmacy and Adams Drugs South, At Home Medical Center South and HealthSouth.

She loved her children dearly and remembered them fondly. A parlor service was held at 1:30pm, Friday, December 23rd, 2005, at Leak-Memory Chapel. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery beside her beloved husband who died in 1988. Leak-Memory Chapel Directed.
