Robert Standring Lamar, Sr. (1915-2009) - Class Of 1933

Robert Standring Lamar, Sr., 94, a resident of Mont­gomery, a World War II Naval Veteran, a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, a graduate of Lanier High School Class of 1932, an Employee of Aronov Realty for 40 years, and a faithful long-time member of the Gi­deons, died Friday, April 24, 2009, at Bill Nichols Veterans Home in Alexander City. 

Graveside services will be held Monday, April 27, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery with Dr. Jay Wolfe officiating. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Marian Mckenzie La­mar of Montezuma, Georgia;  parents, Mary Yougene and Robert Jones Lamar;  son, Claude Leonard Lamar;  sib­lings, Thomas Leonard Lamar,  Amelia L. Wheeler (James), Claude H. Lamar;  sisters-in-law, May Lamar and Susan Lamar.

Survivors include his children,  Robert S. Lamar, Jr. (Ellen Pierce),  Elaine L. James (Thomas James);  brothers and sisters-in-law,  Woodward D. Lamar,  William Y. and Catherine Lamar,  L. Wardlaw Lamar,  and Emilie Lamar;  six grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Visita­tion will be held one hour pri­or to the service at White Cha­pel Funeral Home. The family requests in lieu of Flowers Do­nations be made to Gideons International 1038 Woodley Road Montgomery AL 36106 or First Baptist Church 405 S.Perry St. Montgomery, AL36104.
